I posted this on my social networks this morning with a comment, “Morning stroll through my medicine cabinet.” What brought this on is that I have sneezed a couple of times recently. Why is this in any way significant news (for me, at least)? For one, I haven’t had a cold or flu in over 2 years and I don’t intend to break my record! Secondly, I realized that I hadn’t juiced in a few weeks. So, before I dozed off to sleep last night, I had visions of the delicious fruit and veggies that were going to mix together for my juice cocktail today.
Nutribullet - This little piece of equipment is terrific! It is small enough to fit in your work bag, large purse or baby diaper bag. All you do is add your veggies and fruit in layers, starting with your greens on the bottom. Add water to the line marked on the canister and pop it on the power base. The Nutribullet extracts as opposed to blending or juicing. All this means is that it breaks down all of the ingredients into a easily digestible form, giving you all of the ingredients rather than some parts of them.
Two handfuls of spinach
Handful of baby carrots
Half an apple, cut into small pieces
1/3 of a whole cucumber, I removed the peel
1/2 inch of ginger root, cut up into small pieces. Remove the outer layer
1 tablespoon of honey
Couple of ice cubes (in case I wanted to drink it in the car)
Notice I’m not too particular on portion sizes and exact ingredients. This recipe is completely made up according to what I had in the refrigerator! I just want to show that there doesn’t have to be struggle or an exact science to improving your lifestyle. Sometimes you just go for it according to what you have. I added a little honey and apple to take the edge off of the pure vegetable taste. All of this took about 5 minutes preparation time and about 5 minutes extract time. I put the lid on the canister and stuck it into my lunch bag for the day. How cool is that?

I love mixing things up! I don’t mean putting the fork in the garbage and the trash in the sink but I love putting a spin on words or phrases so we can see them in a new light. So in that form, I am not going to say the traditional “Happy New Year,” but instead “Happy YOU in the New Year!”
Why am I usually so darn happy? Believe me, I’ve had people to ask me before. It’s amazing that being happy can sometimes be seen as not normal! While I have my moments, I generally CHOOSE to be happy in spite of life’s events, not in response to only good things.
Guess what? You have the same ability. There is nothing that stops you more from being happy than your own mind, beliefs and actions. Check out this cool definition of happy from www.wiki.answer.com: “Happy is an emotion that you feel when you find beauty and hope in the world.” Take a moment and say that out loud. Doesn’t it feel simple and free? Look at it like this…A flat tire on the way to work doesn’t have to 100% take your attention away from the beautiful flowers on the other side of the road. The gossipy co-worker shouldn’t get you so off track that you don’t notice strangers smiling at you on the street.
Ever notice how a dog can be so attentive to one thing and in the very next second, be distracted by something else? This may sound a little weird, but in the heat of an aggravating or sad moment, dog-like distraction can actually improve your mood and get you back on track to happy! Next time you are tempted to let the one moment ruin your entire day, quickly take your focus and attention to an image or thought that helps you feel better…the funny thing your child did, your last vacation, or the beautiful plant in the corner. Focus on that for about a minute and notice how the tension you just felt subsides, even if just a little. Distraction doesn’t make a situation disappear but it certainly allows you to approach it a little more calm and centered.
